A Child Accident Prevention Program
As part of a continuing effort to promote youth safety, the Elk Grove Police Department and the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) are pleased to announce that Safety Town is coming to Ellen Feickert Elementary on July 18th. Safety Town is an exciting two-week comprehensive educational program that introduces 5-year-olds to safety awareness. This program, which has been nationally recognized, teaches children entering kindergarten in the fall basic safety awareness and accident prevention through hands-on learning activities.
These basic safety awareness lessons will cover topics such as pedestrian and bicycle safety, school bus safety, poison prevention, basic fire prevention and home and water safety. All of the information is presented in age appropriate fashion through song and hands-on activities. Safety Town students will also have an opportunity to explore a fire truck, police car, and a school bus. In addition, all students will receive a T-shirt for their participation in the program.
“Having an opportunity to reinforce the basic safety awareness messages that children are already receiving at home is critical to a child’s development,” said Elk Grove Police Chief Robert Lehner. “The Elk Grove Police Department and the Elk Grove Unified School District are excited that this nationally recognized program will be available to young children in our community.”
“We are pleased to provide school facilities and specialized transportation staff to support this new Elk Grove Police Department’s Safety Summer program for the youth in our community as safety is a top priority of our governing board” said EGUSD Superintendent Steven M. Ladd, Ed.D.
The registration fee for the program is $25.00 and enrollment is limited to 64 children. Participants will attend 2½ hours a day for two weeks, Monday through Friday (July 18-29, 2011). Acceptance into the program will be on a first come, first served basis. City of Elk Grove residents will be given first priority.
