By just about any measure, last week's distracted driving enforcement conducted by Elk Grove Police was a big success - unless of course if you were one of those cited.

According to police reports, the city issued a total of 123 citations last Wednesday as part of their distracted driving enforcement, which was part of a larger regional approach. Of those citations, 67 were for illegal cell phone use.

"The distracted driving operation that was recently conducted was a proactive effort to address the issue of distracted driving," Elk Grove Police public information officer Chris Trim said. "Keeping drivers focused on the road, instead of their cell phones, ensures that drivers dedicate their full attention to operating a motor vehicle in a safe manner."
