Workers put the finishing touches on Elk Grove's Rain Garden Plaza.
Construction is nearly complete, and the new Elk Grove Rain Garden Plaza will officially open next Tuesday.

Located on Laguna Springs Drive across from Colton Park, the Rain Garden Plaza will be the most comprehensive rain garden in the Sacramento region.

It's a beautiful garden that is a magnet for wildlife - as well as one that is low maintenance and habitat-friendly. The Rain Garden Plaza features Low-Impact Development practices that work with nature to manage stormwater as close to its source as possible by incorporating natural, river-friendly landscaping techniques. The Rain Garden Plaza also features a canopied picnic area, fitness equipment, educational components, and local artwork.

Construction costs for was $442,000 and annual maintenance costs are estimated to be $3,000.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will start at 10:00 a.m and morning refreshments will be served.

Almost a cool half mil for construction plus who knows how much for the engineering/planning. Oh well, maybe the $3.4 million subsidized state office workers can stroll over there and enjoy their lunches.

Hey it's only money!
