Teen shot at following Western Festival, gang member found packing heat, domestic violence case involves baby
The City of Elk Grove experienced a weekend filled with violence that was punctuated by a homicide shooting last night.
Aside from last night's homicide of an Elk Grove man, the violence started early Friday morning and included cases of domestic violence involving a baby, a shooting incident associated with the Western Festival's Suicide night and a citizen physically apprehending a suspect who stole property from his garage. Police also made arrests of three men in two incidents that were found with loaded firearms.
In the domestic violence incident 21-year-old Michael Jones of Sacramento and his victim were involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation. During the altercation, Jones allegedly grabbed the victim by her throat and choked her.
Jones then picked up their 19-month-old son and left the residence with him. Jones then pulled out a knife when the victim attempted to follow him across a busy street.
Jones ran away with the baby and the victim continued to follow. Officers arrived and gave Jones verbal instruction that he reportedly did not follow and placed the baby in front of himself and the officers.
Officers approached Jones and one officer was able to take the baby away from Jones who then physically resisted the officers’ attempts to take him into custody.
Jones reportedly would not comply with instructions and as a result an officer deployed his Taser. Even after the Taser deployment, Jones reportedly continued to physically resist the officers.
Believing that Jones was still in possession of the knife, an EGPD K9 was deployed and Jones was taken into custody and placed in restraint device. A search of Jones led to the discovery of fully a extended knife.
The female victim and the baby were transported to a local area hospital. After Jones was was medically cleared at a local area hospital he was arrested and transported to the county jail.
On Friday night a 17-year old Elk Grove male was attending the Western Festival when he was confronted by two individuals who challenged him to a physical fight. After the victim accepted the challenge and followed them to the location of Elk Grove Florin Rd. and Mohamed Circle where he found several other people there.
As the victim prepared to fight, an unknown suspect pulled out a handgun and shot at him several times. The victim took cover behind a cement wall as additional shots were fired at him.
The suspect and the other individuals who were present all ran away on foot and the victim was not injured. Officers responded but were unable to locate those involved but physical evidence was recovered at the scene.
The suspect is described as a black male; 20 years of age, 5’10” tall, skinny build, with short hair and pimples. The suspect was wearing a black pea coat with a gray hoodie underneath, black jeans and black tennis shoes.
In an incident early Friday morning, an Elk Grove man tackled and apprehended 27-year old Brandon Foley who reportedly had stolen property from the victim's garage. Responding officers arrested the suspect and transferred him to the county jail.
Police also arrested 24-year-old Loung On, a reputed street gang member for possession of a loaded handgun. Also arrested in a separate incident were 19-year old Tevin Thomas and 19-yer-old Jason Carpenter, both of Sacramento for being in possession of two loaded firearms. Both arrests were made on the 9900 block of Elk Grove-Florin, not far from Sunday night's homicide.

Well city council whats your plan to help stop this.
Bad behavior is not something that a city council can "stop". I think you misunderstand the purpose and function of an elected body. You're question implies that the fire dept can prevent all fires. They cannot. Council meembers cannot stop hoodlums from entering our city. Remember, this is a free country. What would your "solution" be to this problem? What exactly would you like to see the council do to stop this? We ALL can do something collectively..that is be proactive; become involved in neighborhood watch; talk to your neighbors; become engaged. The last thing hoodlums want is a bunch of eyes on them. Join together as a community; help all of us stomp out hatred. Sad that you are quick to "blame" someone for this. The only one to blame is the dude that pulled the trigger.
The last poster is corect. But as a city council they still have to be concern and look for ways to handle the problem.
Enter your city....they live in your city...don't you Elk Grovers have a clue?
