Elk Grove Police arrested two Elk Grove men early Monday morning after burglarizing one business and robbing a nearby gas station.

According to police reports, officers responded to an audible alarm call at the Sheldon Liquor store located on the 8900 block of Grantline Road. Responding officers found that the front window of the store had been broken, but no entry had been made.

While investigating the burglary, two men were observed across the road at the Chevron gas station. Officers contacted the two, 25-year-old Nicholas Barnett and 24-year-old Kyle Sleeper who were both wearing disguises and had socks over their faces with Barnett carrying a baseball bat.

The officers were also advised by dispatch they had just received a call from that same station reporting a robbery that indicated one of the robbers was armed with a bat.

A search of Barnett led to the discovery of money taken during the Chevron robbery and determined the bat in his possession had been used to break the window at the liquor store. Both suspects were arrested and transferred to the county jail
