During this recession, providing food can be extremely difficult, especially among seniors and children. According to the U. S. Department of Agriculture, nearly 49 million Americans were facing hunger in 2011.

On Saturday, May 12, the Elk Grove Food Bank Services will participate in the largest food drive in the nation, the 20th annual Stamp out Hunger Postal Food Drive. Over 10,000 communities across the country will join together to help put an end to hunger, and you can participate too - every food donation helps in the fight against hunger no matter how small or large.

Simply leave a sturdy bag containing non=perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, or fruit, pasta, tuna or cereal next to your mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 12.

Elk Grove area letter carriers will collect these food donations as they deliver the mail and take the distribution to the Elk Grove Food Bank.

Last year the Food Bank distributed almost 3 million pounds of food to local individuals and families living right here in our local community.
