Construction of the Elk Grove Promenade stopped in July, 2008.
The Elk Grove City Council will consider modifying development entitlements near the unfinished Elk Grove Promenade at tonight's regular city council meeting.

Under current entitlements, development of adjacent parcels near the Elk Grove Promenade cannot commence until certain triggers are met. Construction of the controversial shopping center stopped unexpectedly four years ago this July and because of the entitlements, not to mention the stagnant economy, development in the planning area has frozen.

The idea was suggested at the April 26 special city council meeting by developer Jim Gillum who said the nascent economic recovery has generated some interest in developing adjacent parcels. Gillum urged and the council agreed to consider changes prior to an international shopping center conference in Las Vegas starting on May 20 that he and Elk Grove Economic Development Director Randy Starbuck will be attending.

Tonight's meeting starts at 6:00.
