This may not entirely classify as ag, but this picture was taken this morning in a residential neighborhood in Elk Grove.

The picture was taken on the empty lot on the northeast corner of Sheldon and Power Inn roads. Many will recall this site was the first choice for Wal Mart's proposed Super Center in Elk Grove. Since that proposal was shot down, not much has happened on this site.

While it is unlikely that the bales being gather are alfalfa, it is probably more of weed abatement cut, it should act as a reminder that there are still undeveloped patches within otherwise fully developed Elk Grove neighborhoods. We need to ask ourselves with these patches of undeveloped property still available, infill as some call them, and the 1,200-acres of Southeast Policy Area still in the planning stages, why are our city leaders hell bent on the annexing the proposed sphere of influence area?

Could that land not be used for agricultural uses and act as a buffer against further suburban sprawl?

There's too many people on Council and their contributors who will benefit from land development (e.g. realtors, developers, rural landowners, land use consultants, architects, engineers, police unions, business owners who don't realize that sprawl will leave them behind, chamber of commerce, public utilities, waste haulers, contractors...need I go on!).
