Politicians running for office often measure success in many different ways, mostly by money. But every once in awhile a candidate comes along whose “ruler,” isn’t money, but people.

That is the measurement by which Elk Grove City Council member Gary Davis is massing his candidacy for Elk Grove’s first elected mayor come November 2012. It is said, "What gets measured, get's done." That was certainly the case with the Ice Cream BBQ with Elk Grove City Council member Gary Davis.

Last night, at the beautiful Elk Grove rural home of Kay and Gil Albiani, guests were greeted with Kay’s gourmet appetizers served on silver trays by their eight-year old lovely grandchildren, triplets, Sophia, Samantha and Bella Albiani.

After a mix and mingle, Gil Albiani spoke to the very large group of supporters telling them why Kay and he support Gary Davis. Gil stated it was from their very first meeting back in 2006. Gil Albiani is known to not mince words asking Gary , “What do you want?” Albiani said Gary responded, “It’s not what I want, it is what I can do for the people of Elk Grove.” Adding the famous Gil Albiani humor, "When have you ever heard that from a candidate!"

Davis echoed that recurring theme of “people first," in addressing his guests, commenting on the strong diversity of those present, giving of their time for the same reason, all supporting Gary Davis for Mayor. From active community leaders, to land owners, developers, local and regional business owners, union officials, to residents and other elected officials, each and every person listening to Gary express his viewpoints on why he will be elected Elk Grove’s mayor in November all agreed with his platform of jobs, a vibrant economy, a community united, healthy and prosperous. Gary also touchingly thanked his wife Heather and their three children, Grace, Adam and Eli, for running along aside of him every step of the way.

But the elephant in any politician’s room is money, as it does take money to run a successful campaign. Very humbly, in thanking his guests, Davis announced that because of the overwhelming support he has received, he has raised over $100,000 thanks mostly to those present. That announcement was answered by very loud applause.

Supporters then dined on barbeque chicken, gourmet hamburgers and hot dogs perfectly cooked by the Carpenters Union, salads and other fixings expertly prepared and presented by Davis Intern, Teresa Rodriguez, drinks provided by the Elk Grove Community Connection; and then guests ventured over to the Leatherby's delectable ice cream bar whereby they designed their own sundaes.

Last night wasn't really a fundraiser; it was a party with everyone celebrating what we know to be true, that Gary Davis is the right person for the job as Elk Grove’s first elected mayor.

He simply measures up!

Well it looks like C.C. has her boy she wants elected. You lost my vote...

First Hume was her boy. Then it was Steve and now it is Gary. Watch out Gary.

As the record shows, all three got elected first time out, all challenging incumbents.

Ms. Conley is only one vote; support your candidate and don't worry about what she is doing.

Has she become Mr. Davis' publicist now....meaning if he is elected as our Mayor we have to see or hear from her at every ribbon cutting & public event this city ever has. Ms. Scherman is looking better all the time.

Hey Connie, in all the years you have lived in Elk Grove, and have been active, have you ever been to one ribbon cutting?

Never seen you pictured, but we never miss seeing Sophia, do we?

Is that why Sophia is running for Mayor? She is going to miss all the photo ops. Being an elected official is more than ribbon cuttings and public events Ms. Scherman!

I guess Sophia, Jerry and Greg supporters can only show their support by going negative.

Have an event, write an article and submit it to EGN. I'm sure the editor would be happy to publish it. Or maybe you are all nothin but hot air and talk.

Thank you for the above comment. The other campaigns or supporters who attend events are also welcome to submit stories about their events as well.

You are missing one boy. The one who she passes info to to get back at her other boys...

OK, I'll bite. What's any politician's promises, including Davis' promises, got to do with the reality of the community's needs?
Apparently nothing.
Davis proffers platitudes with the rest of them: "platform of jobs, a vibrant economy, a community united, healthy and prosperous."
I think I'm gonna barf.

How true.....presented as if it were significant and original.

What the community would have liked to hear more about instead of hamburgers, hotdogs and ice cream, would have been "what are you going to do about this little item?"

Maybe thinking down the road 20-50 years wih your support of the Sphere of Influence (SOI) could be better spent in fixing todays problems and the next 5 years.
