The City of Elk Grove is currently working on a project to review the amount, location, and character of the industrial areas of the City. The intent of this project is to ensure that the City has the right amount of industrial land and that industrial areas are compatible with surrounding neighborhoods and uses.

As part of this project, the City is looking at the types of uses that are appropriate in the existing industrial areas. Industrial properties have historically been reserved for manufacturing, storage, and processing of goods.

Some property owners have suggested that other uses, including offices, restaurants, and public assembly, are compatible too. While allowing these uses within industrial areas would create additional economic opportunities, it may also reduce the City’s inventory of industrial property. These issues are being explored as part of this special project.

At the upcoming workshop, staff will provide an update on the status of the project as well as present the preliminary recommendations to the public. The meeting will be held at the City Council Chambers at City Hall next Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.

For more information on this upcoming public workshop and for information about the project in general, please visit the Elk Grove Planning Department website at www.egplanning.org or contact Sarah Kirchgessner, the project planner, at (916) 478-3649.
