Elk Grove's Multicultural Festival This Saturday

August 19-25 named “Cultural Diversity Awareness Week” in Elk Grove

The City of Elk Grove is hosting the inaugural Multicultural Festival this Saturday at Elk Grove Regional Park.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Elk Grove Regional Park located at 9950 Elk Grove-Florin Road, Elk Grove. The festival will feature ethnic foods, music, entertainment, fashion shows and activities for kids. This day-long festival is Elk Grove’s premier community-wide celebration of diversity and is hosted by the City of Elk Grove’s Multicultural Committee.

The event will feature more than 18 demonstrations from Hmong, Mexican, Indian, Serbian, Sikh, West African & Afro-Caribbean, Azteca, Filipino, Brazilian, Hawaiian, Vietnamese, and Punjabi performers, square dancers and martial artists. Musical performances include the Capitol Chinese Orchestra, Danny & the 5th Street Cruzers, Bloodsky and Q-VO. More information about the event is available here.

In addition, the Elk Grove City Council designated August 19 through August 25 as Cultural Diversity Awareness Week in Elk Grove. The week, which culminates with the Multicultural Festival, encourages the Elk Grove community to promote and organize cultural awareness programs during this designated week, to learn about Elk Grove’s unique cultural surroundings, and become aware of the ethnic and cultural diversity residing in the City of Elk Grove.

More than 40 nonprofits, churches, local artists and community groups will have booths to educate the community about their culture or organization. There will be a dozen food vendors on hand as well.
