It is true that sooner or later people of different thought will find something to agree on.

That was on display Wednesday right when two people - Elk Grove Council Member Pat Hume and Mike Monasky - who are on the right and left ends of the political spectrum respectively found their common ground.

The commonality was the believe that vacancies on the city council should be decided by the voters, not by appointment. Both agreed that the coming political crisis in Elk Grove could be averted by allowing voters to elect the next council member who will fill the seat being vacated by Gary Davis as he ascends to Elk Grove mayor.

If these two can find common ground, just think what could happen in Washington DC.

See Monasky and Hume comment on their believe that democracy is best served by holding a special election.

"The vacancies on the city council should be decided by the voters, not by appointment" - This is true! The people need to speak out.

So easy for the Little Emperor Hume to sit on his throne and pontificate what should be done as he had done so many times in the past. Check Hume’s own record on this website and the reporter's commentary about him over the years.

The Elk Grove School District appointed two members to the board and there was no outcry. What's different here. Appoint someone for the remaining two years, just like Bobbie Singh-Allen on the EGUSD School Board, and then they can run for re-election in 2014 if they want. Same thing with the School Board position. If you like them vote them back in and if you don't then vote them out, just like Jake Rambo on the School Board.

It just all sounds like a bunch of sour grapes because Gary Davis won, at least with Patrick Hume, and Lynn Wheat lost in the case of Michael Monafsky.

I will refer you all to the all-time King of Comedy, the late George Carlin, on his outright refusal to vote. It will give anyone pause who otherwise considers fighting in the armed forces. Watch it if you dare (R-rated for language and sexuality.)
