One of the wayfinding signs introduced during the January workshop.
As part of the city's economic development, Elk Grove will hold another workshop on the placement of so-called way finding signs.

The workshop, which will be held next week, is meant to gather public input on a sign program designed to help visitors find area attractions and other significant facilities in the city. A workshop was also held last January.

“Often the first interaction between a visitor and a city is a sign,” Economic Development Director Randy Starbuck said. “A good signage program can play a major role in letting someone know that Elk Grove is a vibrant, business-friendly, well-managed and easily navigated place.”

The city is working with Rick Engineering, a San Diego-based firm with extensive experience in wayfinding and branding work in notable cities nationwide. Representatives from Rick Engineering will make their first public presentation at next Tuesday’s public meeting.

In addition to the public meeting, City staff and Rick Engineering representatives have scheduled a series of short meetings with various stakeholders in Elk Grove. The workshop will be held next Tuesday, Dec. 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 9961 Elk Grove Florin Road and starts at 5:30 pm.

'Twas the week before Christmas, not a creature was stirring. The public were all nestled into their family visits and festivities, sipping glad tidings and enjoying their season greetings. QUICK! Let's hold public meetings, release environmental documents, and slip in a few LAFCo meetings before they catch on!

Let's see.....our city council brags about being more transparent and then holds separate meetings for the "public" and "stakeholders". Real transparency holds a meeting for all at the same time! What separates the public from stakeholders?
Signs, Signs everywhere a sign!

The timing? Hmmm, first the Gil Moore sign app is coming up, then now we get to hear these San Diego consultants tell us why signs are good for our economic development. Hmmm....

"A coincidence (often stated as a mere coincidence) is a collection of two or more events or conditions, closely related by time, space, form, or other associations which appear unlikely to bear a relationship as either cause to effect or effects of a shared cause, within the observer's or observers' understanding of what cause can produce what effects".

A meeting for the public one week before Christmas...I guess it's easier when the public is too busy to attend and you can have your meeting without any input. That's usually how EG rolls....they roll right over the public. There should be an ordinance or city requirement that NO public meetings be held between thanksgiving and christmas....the only reason for such meetings is the ability to "check off the box' next to "public meeting".

This is a very complicated design - lots of colors and elements (boxes, circles, typestyles...). That's not what you want when you're driving around lost.

Rick Engineering is a landscape design company, and I think they're good at that. But I've seen other graphic design work that they have done recently that turned out like this - much less than what it could be.
