The Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club made an endorsement by membership vote for the Sacramento County District Attorney's race but was unable to reach a majority consensus for the California Ninth Assembly District race at last night's monthly meeting.

By a 62 to 29 vote, the club endorsed dark-horse candidate Todd Leras over Maggy Krell. Leras is the most recent entry into what is now a three person race that includes Anne Marie Schubert. Schubert, who is one of District Attorney Jan Scully's lieutenants, has received Scully's endorsement.

"I am thrilled, this is wonderful," Leras said. "I am deeply touched for the people responding to my message."

In the endorsement contest for the Ninth District California Assembly race between Elk Grove Vice Mayor Jim Cooper, Sacramento City Council Member Darrell Fong and Sacramento City Unified School District Trustee Diana Rodriguez, none of the three reached a majority plus-one total so no endorsement was issued. Fong led with 44 votes, Cooper ended with 35 and Rodriguez received 16.

According to the club's by-laws, since no majority was met, should two of these three Democratic candidates be the top two finishers in the current five-person field who run-off in the November general election, an endorsement vote could come before the club again.

When asked about the results, Fong noted the club rules requiring a majority, but was pleased he led in the voting.

"That's something," he added.

After almost 14 years as a council member in Elk Grove, you would think Cooper would have won the majority, or at least a plurality of vote on his turf. If this trend continues, I suspect Cooper won't be making the move downtown.

The question is who are these people voting as part of the Elk Grove Dems. I have lways known the club to have no more than 20 regular members.. It seems that the Elk grove Dems club has surrender control to outsiders joining the club just to push their candidate without really having any connection to Elk Grove.

To above, maybe eg dens are becoming more aware or are recognizing that Dem or Rep city council members major campaign contributors are home developers, or maybe quality of life issues as mentioned by the other candidate are important
