As part of worldwide Earth Day celebrations, the City of Elk Grove will host a grand opening of its new special waste collection center tomorrow.

The new facility, located at 9255 Disposal Lane, is a new $4.6 million state-of-the-art special waste collection facility. When open, the facility will accommodate typical household hazardous wastes and recyclables like antifreeze, batteries, cooking oil, used motor oil, fluorescent light bulbs, gasoline and electronic waste.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. and the facility will be open until 7 p.m. for tours. Other planned activities include activities, plant and tree plantings, Earth Day recycling and composting demonstrations, a live band, free refreshments, and award-winning recycling videos produced by local students from Foulks Ranch Elementary School.

The center will start accepting waste materials on Wednesday, April 23. More information about the grand opening and the facility is available here.
