Three Elk Grove-based candidates expressed solidarity and commitment to their community at a fundraiser held last night in Elk Grove.
The three candidates Rod Brewer, Nancy Chaires and Jim Cooper were the beneficiaries of the event held at Logan's Steakhouse and organized by the Elk Grove Community Connection (EGCC). Brewer is seeking his second term as a Director with the Cosumnes Community Services District (CCSD), Chaires is seeking election to the District 4 seat of the Elk Grove City Council and Cooper, who currently serves on the Elk Grove City Council, is seeking election to the Ninth District seat of the California Assembly.
In introducing the three, EGCC's Connie Conley said that group is supporting all three because they share the same core values.
"They believe in their community, and most importantly, they have compassion for the people they represent, which we believe is very important," Conley said.
Brewer, who is one of three people running for two positions on the CCSD, said he was proud of his service for the district in light of the difficult economic decisions that were made as a result of recession.
"The economy is improving, we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel," Brewer said.
Chaires, who faces three opponents and is a current member of the Elk Grove Planning Commission, noted that as the city matures it will be her priority to continue to focus on quality of life issues and to ensure continued public safety. As a planning commissioner, Chaires said she always questions how things would affect people.
"With every decision the city council makes, I want to make sure that quality of life and our public safety are first and foremost," she said. "And with my experience on the planning commission, I've already had an opportunity to do a lot of that."
In his comments, Cooper noted one of the best decisions he made was appointing Chaires to the planning commission noting "she is smarter than all of us."
Cooper said that he hopes to continue his focus on helping children should he win his Assembly race. Noting Elk Grove's high rate of youth sports participation keeps them from getting involved in gangs or drugs, Cooper said he hopes as an Assembly Member to similarly help children district-wide.
"That is my passion, is to make a difference in our kids life's," he said.
Noting the expected low voter turn-out, Cooper, who is in what is thought to be a very competitive race also urged everyone to vote.
"Voter turn-out is going to be very low," he said. "So every vote truly counts."

How many people are in the core group of EG Community Connection? Three?
Eastside Betty...have to agree with your last comment, that's what I call "living dangerously."
To be aligned with these three women who are trying to bankrupt the city through multiple unwarranted lawsuits shows a huge lack of integrity by all three of these candidates.
The only credible one is Linda Ford, the other two have done their best to burn Elk Grove to the ground for their own petty personal issues. They have moved from Council Member to Council Member and once the are told No, they attack and file their lawsuits and charges.
Don't be fooled, they do not represent more than 5-10 people in Elk Grove, it is just a shame that more people are not afraid to call them out for what they really are.
Friendly reminder - no personal attacks please.
The statement regarding "multiple unwarranted lawsuits" is false.

Something doesn't seem right here. Why have these comments have been deleted? Dan, what kind of journalism are you practicing? You can talk about anything except Nancy because she's a paying customer? Where is your journalistic integrity?
Geez, here I have been waiting to meet Ms. Chaires & Mr. Cooper at a local event that I didn't have to pay big $$$ for and didn't see it noticed anywhere.
In the interest of clarity, for the purposes of all political advertising, an Oregon-based independent sales agent has handled campaigns ads. All candidates for Elk Grove City Council, State Senate District 6, State Assembly District and U.S. Congressional District 7 were contacted by the agent and offered ad space. The dealings between the campaigns and EGN for the purposes of advertising have been handled by our Oregon-based agent.
If you wish to discuss this, I urge interested parties to contact me via email at news@elkgrovenews.net or call me directly, nine 1 six - seven 5 three- nine 4 zero 2.
Thank you.

Anon. 7:36 I believe they were probably removed because they violated the Terms of Use. If you read above the Comment section you will see in part what I mean.
I am not aligned with any candidates and while I care about Elk Grove, I am quite busy with other activities to be involved politically.
I did see the first comment that was posted - it was a personal attack and was way below the line. I agree with removing this attack and can only imagine others were similar.
To whoever is involved in these attacks, I would hope that you would stop as they make Nancy's opponents look bad. It would also be good for all candidates to make a clear statement saying negative campaigning is not desired.
Looks like Mr. Brewer put on his big boy pants for this event. Hope he wasn't wearing his flip flops like he was at city council.
I also didn't hear of this event, or I may have attended. Most of these events are too pricey for me but I may have gone to this one had I heard about it before it occurred.
I spoke to one who attended and was told that only about a dozen citizens attended. That's too bad for all concerned, especially the organizers.
Need to do a better job of getting the word out. I read this blog and EGO regularly and subscribe to the Citizen, but never saw anything about it.
