A Wilton Calif. man is in custody following an alleged shoplifting incident where he threatened to shoot a grocery store employee.

On the afternoon of Sunday, May 28 Robert Benson, 41, and three other individuals were reportedly shoplifting inside the Winco grocery store on Sheldon Road. When the suspects entered the store, they were approached by loss prevention employees.

Benson allegedly yelled at the employees that he was armed with a gun and was going to shoot them. The loss prevention employees were able to detain Benson and the three other suspect fled and were not located. 

Responding Elk Grove Police officers and arrested Benson who is being held on a $1 million bail for felony robbery, conspiracy, and violations of probation. Arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, May 31.
