Herber leads three-way race for SMUD Ward 4 seat

November 7, 2018 |

In the three candidate race for the Sacramento County Municipal Utility District Ward 4 seat, Rosanna Herber is leading Angela Spease and Mark Graham.

In tallies released early this morning, Herber leads with 47-percent at 12,212 votes. Spease has 37-percent with 9,931 votes and Mark Graham has 3,387 votes for 13-percent of the total.

The competitive race was created when Genevieve Shiroma decided earlier this year not to seek another term after serving as a director for 20 years. Herber entered the race fairly early and  was supported by the Democratic Party of Sacramento County and was part of Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly's so-called Team Elk Grove.

Even though she entered the race just days before the filing deadline, Spease, a well-known Elk Grove resident, received significant financial support and was able to quickly raise her visibility in a ward that includes about half of Elk Grove and portions of Sacramento.

Countywide, 185,623 votes have been counted and there are approximately 175,000 uncounted ballots. The next vote tallies will be released on the late afternoon of Friday, November 9.

If the current trends continues on Friday, Herber is the likely winner of the race.
