Thanks in part to a tip they received, Elk Grove Police apprehended two suspects wanted in an early morning shooting.

Two suspects, one a 17-year old male juvenile from Sacramento, and the other identified as Davonntay Oryan Jones-Carnes, 21, of Elk Grove were taken into custody on December 31. The juvenile turned himself into police while Jones-Carnes, who was the presumed shooter, was taken into custody with the assistance of Sacramento Police in the La Rivera Drive area of Sacramento.

The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. on Friday, December 28 at the Winco grocery store parking lot on Sheldon Road on the city's far north side. A 15-year old male sustained a gunshot wound after a brief exchange of words near the entrance to the store.

After the shooting, police released surveillance pictures of the suspects and their vehicle. Police detectives received several leads on the identity of the two suspects, one of which led to one of the suspects.

The 17-year old is in custody at juvenile hall while Jones-Carnes was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on attempted murder and conspiracy charges and is not eligible for release. Arraignment is on Thursday, January 3.
