Upper management structure to be changed at Elk Grove Police

Changes to command at the Elk Grove Police will soon be implemented pending approval by the Elk Grove City Council. According to a staff report on the agenda for the Wednesday, October 23 city council meeting, Elk Grove Police will add the position of assistant chief of police.

Under Elk Grove Police's current management structure, there are three captains who report directly to the chief. Under the proposal, which was prepared by the city's human resources department, the three captains would report to the assistant chief, and the assistant would report directly to the chief.

In the justification, the report says the ratio of senior management staff (excluding chief) to total personnel is 86 to one. Other nearby law enforcement agencies such as Folsom are 36 to one and Sacramento 73 to one. With the addition of an assistant chief, Elk Grove's ratio will be lowered to 65 to one.

The report says the salary range for the position would range between $172,791 - $231,556. A nationwide search will be conducted to fill the position.
