Warming Center to open for three nights in Elk Grove

Faced with a growing population of homeless individuals dealing with inclement weather, The City ofElk Grove and the Cosumnes Community Services District announced they will open a warming center starting Wednesday, February 3. The facility will be operated at the CCSD's Wackford Center at 9014 Bruceville Road.

The center will operate Wednesday through this Friday between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning. Daily weather forecasts will be used to assess future needs.

The facility will be open to individuals without shelter or adequate home heating and cannot accommodate pets. Staffing will be provided by the CCSD Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and Volunteers in Policing (VIP) volunteers.

Following California Department of Health COVID-19 recommended protocols, temperature screenings will be required for entry. Visitors to the warming center will also be required to wear face coverings and maintain six feet of social distancing from others. Masks will be provided to those who need them.

So this center wasn't open last Tuesday night with the howling rains and extreme winds that killed four homeless in greater Sacramento?
Elk Grove knew this storm and accompanying winds were coming, but did nothing to assist our most disadvantaged?
The public has demanded city manager to be fired and the mayor to be recalled for their inactions. What of our leaders? Are they less responsible?
Our council?

Mr. Lee, I can't believe you would question this. The C.Y.A. Warming Center was undergoing renovations during the storm and freezing temperatures. A new Task Force could be created to explore a 5-point homeless plan!
