With a landslide victory in his pocket for reelection to Elk Grove's City Council's District 1 seat, Darren Suen significantly increased his fundraising efforts post 2020-election.
According to financial disclosures filed with the Elk Grove City Clerk's office, Suen raised $23,370 between October 18 and December 31, 2020. Of that, $22,000 was raised after Suen's November reelection.
For 2020, Suen raised $95,989 and ended the year with $68,606. Campaign expenditures for the entire year were $135,430 which included a payment of $5,000 to campaign manager Skyler Wonnacott, who is a member of California Assemblymember Jim Cooper's (D - Elk Grove) staff.
Suen's significant annual contributions include the following:
California Conference Board Amalgamated Transit Union - $9,000
California Real Estate PAC - $10,000
Elk Grove Bilby Partners - $1,500
Laguna Gateway Phase 2 - $3,000
Republic Services - $2,500
River City Waste Services, Bryan Wilson - $3,000
Sacramento Metro Chambers - $2,000
Willdan Group - $2,000
First appointed to the city council in 2014, Suen was elected to a full term in 2016 and lost his 2018 bid for Elk Grove Mayor. With the anticipated candidacy of Assemblymember Jim Cooper for Sacramento Sheriff in 2022, Suen is one of many regional politicians exploring a run for the 9th Assembly District seat.
