Nguyen sends poster to validate Pro-choice credentials in heated 10th District California Assembly race
After repeated runs at her Democratic credentials, Elk Grove City Councilmember and District 10 California Assembly candidate Stephanie Nguyen addressed one issue head-on with her recent mailer. The issue is reproductive rights, and Nguyen addressed her stance with no uncertainty.
The sealed mailer was sent to women Democratic voters and said: "Show Your Support" for Planned Parenthood. Opening it reveals a poster in Planned Parenthood pink saying in all caps, "I Stand With Planned Parenthood." Inside is also a single sheet highlighting her fight against Asian hate.
Although abortion access is settled law in California, the recently leaked documents showing the U.S. Supreme Court may overturn Roe v. Wade with the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health case have sparked nationwide debate. Even in states like California, the debate has become an issue where abortion is readily available.
Nguyen has been attacked by the California Association of Realtors in a series of mailers questioning her Democratic credentials. One of the mailers posed Nguyen as a Republican.
Elk Grove News asked the four leading 10th District Assembly candidates their stances on reproductive rights. Nguyen, along with Rev. Tecoy Porter and Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra, affirmed their commitments to abortion access. Republican candidate Eric Rigard did not respond.
With this mailer, Nguyen undoubtedly hopes to dismiss concerns on this issue. Although Nguyen affirmed her support of the nationwide women's health organization, the Mar Monte branch of Planned Parenthood serving the Sacramento region endorsed Guerra.
