Hume, Moreno in virtual tie with first results in Sacramento County Supervisor District 5 race

With the first release of ballots just after 8 p.m., Pat Hume and Jaclyn Moreno are in a virtual tie for District 5 of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors race.

Hume, the long-serving Elk Grove City Councilmember, has 12,402 votes. Moreno, a Director with the Cosumnes Community Services District is slightly behind with 12,027 votes.

The race between Republican Hume and Democrat Moreno has been closely watched as it could determine the political balance of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. Hume and Moreno are competing to replace Supervisor Don Nottoli, who will have served 28 years when he leaves office later this year.

Hume has been supported by businesses and real estate interests, while Moreno has received extensive support from labor interests and the Sacramento County Democratic Party. Hume was expected to have a substantial advantage over Moreno based on greater name recognition and funding raising efforts.

The next vote tally will be released at 10:15 p.m.
