A video posted on Sunday, July 9, 2023, shows what appears to be a street fight. According to the posting information, the video was recorded in Historic Downtown Elk Grove, also popularly known as Old Town.
In the video, there are five people, of which three men are involved in the fight. The one male subject in the white tee shirt appears to be bleeding from the hand, and his shirt near his left shoulder is soaked in blood.
Near the end of the video, what sounds to be a female voice shouts to call 9-1-1. Although not verified, comments in the video suggest police arrested some of the combatants.
As of this evening, the Elk Grove Police have not posted their daily arrest summary. The fight appears to have taken place on the 9200 block of Elk Grove Boulevard, in the Historic Downtown Elk Grove and the Old Town Special planning area near the former offices of the Elk Grove Water District.
The fight comes at an inopportune time for the Explore Elk Grove tourist agency. The group recently announced a six-month marketing campaign promoting the long-struggling business district.
Additionally, Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, with the support of her city council, has suggested recent developments in Historic Downtown Elk Grove could transform the district into an area like San Diego's famed Gaslamp Quarter. Among those developments was a $500,000 taxpayer loan guarantee for a new barbeque restaurant on Railroad Street.
UPDATE July 11 3:30 p.m.
The Elk Grove Police have provided the following description of the event.
Last night, a 15-year-old and a man were arguing in the Old Town area. During the argument, the 15-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed the man several times. The juvenile left before the officers' arrival. Officers rendered life-saving measures, and the man was transported to a local hospital, where he is expected to survive. The 15-year-old was located and booked into custody at Juvenile Hall for assault with a deadly weapon.
