Voices of Elk Grove - If 1st Amendment rights are threatened, exercise 2nd Amendment rights says speaker at city council meeting

A speaker at the Elk Grove City Council meeting said Elk Grove is one of the safest places in the
world for the LGBTQ+ community. |

In a wide-ranging commentary at the Elk Grove City Council meeting, one speaker suggested Second Amendment rights should be exercised if First Amendment rights are threatened.

Mr. Kirk Thomson made those comments and others during public comment on non-agenda items during the Wednesday, August 9, 2023, Elk Grove City Council meeting. Thomson's comments were made in the context of an assertion during the July 26, 2023, city council meeting by an Elk Grove bookstore that is a gathering spot for the city's LGBTQ+ community had been doxxed.

During the July 26 meeting, the co-owner of A Seat at the Table told Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and her city council that the LGBTQ+ community felt unsafe in Elk Grove. After hearing Thomson's commentary during that meeting, the co-owner commented and said the business had been doxxed.

Tonight Thomson said he does not condone doxxing and unequivocally said he had not been party to that action. However, Thomson minimized the bookstore owner's claim and believes that Elk Grove is one of the safest places for the LGBTQ+ community in the world.

Thomson also suggested it was an attempt to silence his opinion. He stated if someone feels unsafe exercising free speech, "Do what most of my friends did years ago when they began to participate in any sort of activism - exercise your Second Amendment rights."

As h continued, Thomson pointed to Elk Grove Police Chief Bobby Davis and said, "I think she was saying she wants you involved, chief."

He added if the police came to his residence, he would ask Davis for two favors.

"One, bring a warrant, and if you don't have a warrant, please knock," Thomson said. "Even Stalin had the decency to knock."

Thomson's entire commentary can be seen in the video.
