Even though the name says Elk Grove, the boundaries of Elk Grove Unified School District included several areas, including portions of Rancho Cordova. As one of the state's largest school districts, the EGUSD consists of a large portion of city the city of Rancho Cordova under the EGUSD's jurisdiction.
Speaking during public comments on non-agenda items during the Tuesday, February 6 trustee meetings, a parent who identified herself as Heidi said students residing in District 7 travel long distances to attend school. Rancho Cordova, which is part of District 7, is represented by Trustee Carmine Forcina.
District 7, the largest geographical area of the EGUSD, has a large portion of open space and new subdivisions in the southern portions of the city of Rancho Cordova in its boundaries. The rest of the city is in the Folsom Rancho Cordova Unified School District.
District 7 Middle and high school students attend Albiani Middle and Pleasant Grove High Schools on Bond Road in the city of Elk Grove. During her testimony, Heidi said Rancho Cordova students are subjected to lengthy bus rides and said the district should build facilities more accessible to Rancho Cordova students, but instead built other facilities like Cosumnes Oak and Franklin high schools close to one another.
"Why should families in Area Seven suffer from your irresponsible decision in wasting resources and planning building sites that were not appropriate for the needs of your largest district," she said.
Additionally, Heidi criticized the district for holding daytime facilities meetings when most parents work. The entire commentary can be seen in the video.
The comments were made during non-agenda comments, and none of the trustees responded to the critique.
