A burgeoning illegal dump site on Elk Grove's neglected northern border. |

Since taking the mayoral office in 2020, Bobbie Singh-Allen, her city council, and the entire city professional staff have become singularly focused on just a few things. Most notable was the mayor's ability to foist a $300 million-plus budget for a new Sacramento Zoo, which will likely grow to a $1 billion budget.

Aside from the zoo, at the direction of the mayor and her city councilmen, the city has focused on certain areas of Elk Grove. Among the areas they have given disproportionate attention to are the city's District56 meeting facility and swimming pool, Old Town-Historic Downtown Elk Grove, the shiny new Ridge Shopping Center, and, to a lesser extent, the floundering Project Elevate.

Let's call it what it is - the mayor and her councilmen have developed a fetish for select areas of Elk Grove. As in any case where one area receives attention, other areas of the community.

While the mayor and her councilmen fetishize these select areas, other parts of Elk Grove are crapping out. Visually, Elk Grove's far northside in City Council District 3 is one such area.

This recent story about dumping on Elk Grove-Florin Road shows that things are getting trashy on the north side. Also, note the pictures above and in the video and image below.

These images were captured on September 22 and show what is quickly becoming a de facto dump site on Calvine Road, the city's far northern border, between the Union Pacific tracks and Elk Grove-Florin Road.

Interestingly, the Union Pacific access road has made dumping there relatively easy.

With no surveillance cameras nearby, this is a great dump site on the border of Sacramento.

Not to put too fine a point on this neglect for certain neighborhoods, but it is not a coincidence that Mayor Singh-Allen moved the controversial Oak Rose affordable supportive housing project out of the burgeoning entertainment district in Old Town-Historic Downtown Elk Grove to the far northern border on Elk Grove-Florin Road near Calvine Road.

At best, this is benign neglect. At worst, it shows her disdain for particular long-established neighborhoods that lack the glamor Mayor Singh-Allen cravenly needs.

Undoubtedly, opposition would arise wherever the Oak Rose project landed. But you can bet your life savings that Mayor Singh-Allen and her city councilmen would never relocate the project to an area of their fetishization, much less the neighborhoods where they reside.

Mayor Singh-Allen and her city councilmen will continue to fetishize their select areas. Meanwhile, keep an eye out in your neighborhoods, especially the older ones, because the mayor, just like Melania Trump, really doesn't care!
