SMUD, Elk Grove receive $11 million federal grant for EV charging stations

In an ongoing effort to facilitate the use of more electric vehicles, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and the city of Elk Grove have been awarded an $11 million grant for charging stations.

In September, the city and SMUD applied for a share of the $1.3 billion U.S. Department of Transportation Charging and Fueling infrastructure grant. Earlier this month, they were notified that their application had been approved.

The $11 million grant will allow SMUD and the city to install nine charging stations, five of which will be within Elk Grove city limits. The station locations have not been identified other than they will be accessible to the public.
