A Walmart store employee was assaulted last night when tried to apprehend a suspected shoplifter.

According to Elk Grove Police, the unknown male suspect was observed shoplifting at the Elk Grove Boulevard Walmart store. When the suspect left the store without paying for the merchandise, a loss prevention employee approached him.

Upon contract, the suspect punched the employee in the face and was seen fleeing the parking lot in an older white van. The suspect was described as a white male adult in his 20's, 5'10", 130  lbs and wearing a gray jacket.
