Three Arrested, Victims Injured Following Granite Bay 'Snapchat' Party Attempted Armed Robbery

April 12, 2017 |

Granite Bay, Calif - A Granite Bay resident learned the perils of advertising a party on the popular social media platform Snapchat after they were robbed at gunpoint.

On Monday, April 10 at 5:15 a.m., Placer County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on East Hidden Lakes Drive for a fight involving a firearm. The first deputy arrived on the scene within one minute and saw several vehicles leaving the area.

The responding deputy was able to stop one of the vehicles, which belonged to the suspects. Roseville Police officers also assisted in stopping vehicles.

The girl who hosted the party said the party was intended for Granite Bay residents only. But one of the partygoers posted it to Snapchat, and several young men from the Placerville/Cameron Park area arrived.

One suspect, Austin Eric Keefauver, 18, got into an argument with someone at the party. Keefauver went to his vehicle and returned with a pistol-gripped shotgun, pointed it at the victims and demanded money and everything in their pockets.

When the victims did not comply, a fight ensued. The suspect and his friends left, but were immediately stopped by the deputy.

The shotgun was found hidden in the car’s trunk. Victims positively identified Keefauver as the suspect, and he was booked at the Placer County Jail on charges of robbery, being armed in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy.

Additionally, Daniel Munoz, 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested for participating in the fight, which caused injuries to all three victims.

The victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Keefauver and Munoz were booked at the Placer County Jail, and the juvenile was booked into Placer County Juvenile Hall.

Keefauver’s bail was set at $125,000 and he posted bail and was released yesterday.
