Former Elk Grove Unified Teacher Enters No Contest Plea on Sexual Relation With Student Charges

A former teacher at Elk Grove Unified School District entered a plea yesterday on charges of committing a sexual act with a person under the age of 18.

John Young, 53, a former Spanish language teacher at Sheldon High School in Sacramento plead no contest of engaging in a sexual act with a 17-year old student of the school. The suspect was arrested by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department on May 2.  

According to the Sacramento County District Attorney's office, Young began the relationship with the victim that culminated with a sexual act. Members of the victim's family discovered the relationship from an examination of text messages on the victim's phone which referenced the act. 

Young faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison. Sentencing is set for October 16, in Department 8 before Judge Lawrence Brown.
