Application Period For Elk Grove's Police 'Chief's Advisory Board' Now Open

As promised in comments by Elk Grove Police Chief Bryan Noblett during last week's Elk Grove City Council meeting, applications for the Chief's Advisory Board are now being accepted. 

The creation of this board is the result of numerous public comments made at community meetings held late last year following several hate incidents in Elk Grove. The series of incidents was highlighted by the placement of a threatening hate message at an African American-owned business in the city's Old Town district. 

During those meetings, several participants claimed there was unfair treatment of members of the African American community at the hands of Elk Grove Police. Although some urged the formation of an independent police commission with oversight authority, Noblett decided to create the advisory board. 

According to information posted on the police department's website, the "board is created to act as a resource for the Chief in the formation of strategies, development of community policing concepts and increasing public awareness. The board is intended to provide a forum for discussions concerning community concerns and the goal is to have a broad spectrum of viewpoints represented."

Those selected to serve on the board will be appointed for one two-year term and must be a resident or business owner in Elk Grove. As noted in the posting, "The board will consist of 10-15 key stakeholders, comprised of a diverse cross-section of active community members throughout the City of Elk Grove."
