EGPD laud citizens who help in the arrest of suspected hit and run, drunk driver

August 7, 2018 |

In a posting on social media, Elk Grove Policed laud citizens who assisted in locating a person who allegedly was involved in a hit and run accident while driving under the influence.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 1 just before 9 p.m. when the victim was securing her children in a parked car on the 10000 block of Waterfield Drive. The driver of another vehicle, Deborah Sant, 36, of Elk Grove hit the mother's car that resulted in a minor injury.

In their posting, EGPD noted "Luckily, two neighbors stopped to check on the mother. They got the suspect vehicle description and checked the area for the car and driver. The neighbors found the car and driver a few blocks away and took a picture of the vehicle and license plate which they provided to officers."

Responding officers contacted Sant who was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and felony hit and run. Sant has been released from custody.

EGPD noted, "We also want to commend the good Samaritans for their quick thinking that helped us make an arrest."
