Time for Elk Grove, Sacramento region politicians to rethink ambitions as tentative 2022 district maps revealed?

Even though final versions are pending, maps released today for Elk Grove's representation in California's Assembly and Senate as well as the U.S. House of Representatives could have far reaching implications, not the least of which will affect decisions for Elk Grove area politicians.

The maps were drawn by the independent California Redistricting Commission as part of the decennial redistricting.

A tentative map for Elk Grove's Assembly representation has the city in an east-west oriented district and will be combined with the Solano County cities of Fairfield, Vacaville, and as far west as Benicia. Elk Grove is an eastern panhandle of the district.

Proposed Assembly map

While Elk Grove's assembly district has an east west orientation with the city on the eastern edge, the senate district has a north south orientation. In this proposed map, Elk Grove is at the northern edge of a district that runs south through Central Valley agricultural areas.

The district will include all of Elk Grove and Stockton and extends south wrapping around Modesto.

For its representation in the U.S. House of Representatives, as with the other proposed maps for Elk Grove, the district will run south. Elk Grove is at the northern-central edge of a t-shaped district that will include all of Stockton. The district will also reach into portions of eastern Solano County.

Proposed U.S. Congress map

While the maps are not final, they provide guidance of the direction of the commission and are the best representation of California political boundaries in 2022.
