Non-ADA compliant Elk Grove curb ramps to be replaced with Fed money

Federal money will help Elk Grove replace sidewalk curb ramps that are not compliant with the American Disability Act (ADA). The funds are from the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant program.

Elk Grove's report on the grants highlights the pivotal role of the CDBG program in urban development. It states, "The overarching aim of the CDBG program is to foster the growth of viable urban communities by ensuring decent housing, creating a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities."

This year, the city will receive $910,987 and has $197,950.54 in unspent prior-year funds. Any previous-year carryover must be used for CDBG qualifying programs.

Most of this year's funding will be spent on sidewalk improvement to bring them into ADA compliance. The city has 64 unspecified sidewalk projects planned for improvements.

Below is a summary of this year's grants.
