In the last several weeks there have been countless stories about the worldwide food shortages and food riots. Domestically, there have been stories of increased food cost and how many stressed families are increasingly depending on locally operated food banks to fill the gaps.

Last week, there was an NPR story on a food bank in Carlisle, PA. This story got us to thinking about the importance the Elk Grove Food bank is for our community.

Arriving home later that evening, there was a Save Mart grocery bag seeking donations to the Elk Grove Food Bank. Perfect timing.

Upon closely investigating the bag, we found it was not from the food bank directly, rather it was from a 10 year child in the neighborhood organizing a neighborhood food drive for Elk Grove's food bank.

The young organizer, Kristiana, apparently has taken it on her own to do something to help hungry families in our community.

So for those of us lucky enough to have received a bag and note from Kristian, she will be by May 2 to pick up your donations.

So remember, donate early and donate often to the Elk Grove Food Bank!
