Leary puts the interest of developers ahead of the city's financial well-being
If city council member Mike Leary is such an eager-beaver to spend his campaign funds on $400 dinners in Las Vegas, it really shouldn't come as any surprise he is willing to drop some taxpayers dollars in the lap of some real estate development right here in Elk Grove.
And this is just what Leary wants to do.
According to a story originally filed in the Sacramento Bee, Leary has said he is willing to explore kickbacks to hotel developer Reynold and Brown of Concord, Calif. of half the sales the transient occupancy tax proceeds during the first 10 years of hotel operations.
Call it a development "incentive" or whatever euphemism of your choice, it still smells like a kick-back to us.
You don't suppose this money Leary wants to redirect to the pockets of his fat cat real estate developer patrons might be better spend on on the citizens of Elk Grove and their very pressing needs?
Not consequentially Leary has received a $1,500 donation from this political patron, Reynold and Brown of Concord. Way to go Mike, now that that's how you look out for the citizens of Elk Grove by giving kickbacks to your patrons.

Mayor Davis also said he would also like to explore this option. Why is Leary singled out?
If you're going to take sides, maybe your website should be called Elk Grove Opinion instead of Elk Grove News.
