REWARD OFFERED IN 2006 HOMICIDE - Information sought in slaying of 15-year-old Robert Maisonet

Press release from Elk Grove police

ELK GROVE , CA – On Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., the Elk Grove Police Department will hold a press conference at Franklin Boulevard and Tegan Road regarding an unsolved homicide that took place at the same location on January 7, 2006.

On January 7, 2006 at 2:10 p.m., 15-year-old Robert Francisco Maisonet was walking on Franklin Blvd. when he was approached by three males described as Hispanic or Asian approximately 15 to 18 years of age. These three males began pummeling Robert until he collapsed to the ground. According to witnesses, the three assailants fled the scene in a sport-utility vehicle driven by a fourth person.

Robert was found unconscious and transported to the UC Davis Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The initial investigation was handled by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department since the City of Elk Grove was still under contract with the county for law enforcement services.

Homicide Detectives with the Sheriff’s Department pursued all possible leads and have now turned over the investigation to the Elk Grove Police Department. Elk Grove Detectives are looking to develop new information regarding those responsible for this violent attack. The motive for the attack remains unknown, and Detectives are hoping that a $5,000.00 reward from the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation will persuade someone with information to step forward and help the Elk Grove Police Department locate those individuals responsible for this crime.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department at (916) 478-8060 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357). In addition, anyone with information can send an anonymous text message to the following number 274637 (Crimes), followed by Tip732 then the information they would like to pass on.
