Press release from Elk Grove police

ELK GROVE, CA – On October 1, 2008, Detectives from the Elk Grove Police Department arrested 35-year-old Gregory Hail in connection with a robbery that occurred in the Wal-Mart parking lot, and an attempted car jacking that occurred last week in the Walgreens parking lot.

On September 24, 2008 at 7:20 p.m., Gregory Hail approached a 66-year-old Elk Grove resident who was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle. Hail pulled open the passenger door and tried to forcibly remove the victim from the vehicle. The victim was able to scream for help and fight off Hail who fled the location on foot.

On September 28, 2008 at 5:50 p.m., Gregory Hail approached a customer leaving Wal-Mart (see related story) and asked if she wanted to buy any CD`s. The victim declined and turned away. Gregory Hail then placed an object, which the victim believed was a gun, against her back and demanded that the victim turn over her wallet and money. The victim feared for her life and gave Hail her personal property. Gregory Hail then fled the scene in a small iridescent green vehicle.

Investigating officers were able to develop information that identified Hail as the person responsible for both incidents. Gregory Hail was taken into custody today at his residence located in the 8700 block of Bluefield Way, Sacramento. The vehicle used to flee the scene of the Wal-Mart robbery was also located. Hail was arrested and is currently being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail.
