On September 14, 2009 at 12:33 a.m., the Elk Grove Police Department responded to a several 911 calls from the Extended Stay Hotel (2200 block of Longport Dr.) regarding a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers located two males (ages 27 and 25) suffering from stab wounds to their upper torso. Medical personnel arrived and transported both men to a local area hospital for medical treatment.

While en route to the hospital, the 27-year-old victim died as a result of his injuries. The name of the deceased has not been released and identification will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. The 25-year-old stabbing suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries and is recovering from surgery.

Based on witness information, detectives believe that the two individuals were acquaintances/co-workers who were residing at the Extended Stay Hotel. Both individuals were outside the hotel’s front lobby drinking alcoholic beverages when a verbal argument began.

The verbal argument then escalated into a physical confrontation and the suspect stabbed the victim several times. As a result of the assault, both individuals suffered injuries.

At this point, detectives do not believe that there are any outstanding suspects in the stabbing, and the knife used in the assault was recovered. The motive for the assault remains under investigation, and the name of the 25-year-old suspect is not being released at this time.

Once the suspect is medically cleared for incarceration, he will be arrested for Homicide Penal Code Section 187 and transported to the main jail (photo not available at this time).

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Communication Center (916) 714-5115 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Callers to Crime Alert can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00. Tips can also be sent via SMS text message by entering CRIMES (274637) on a cell phone, followed by Tip732 and the message.

Yes, I don't have any reason to believe that Elk Grove won't follow the same pattern as every other suburban "ring" around Sacramento.

Elk Grove likely won't age well.
