Armed robbery, muggings, domestic violence makes keep officers busy


Elk Grove Police had a busy weekend responding to a variety of calls ranging from an armed robbery of a liquor store to domestic violence incidents and muggings. In all 15 arrests were made and several incidents resulted in no suspect being apprehended.

On Saturday afternoon the Elk Grove Wine and Liquor store on Elk Grove-Florin Road was robbed when an unknown suspect aged 17 to 19 entered the store and brandished a firearm and demanded money. The store clerk complied with the demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect who fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male, aged 17 to 19 years old, 5’10” to 5’11’, 160 pounds wearing a light colored sweatshirt with dark green or black spots.

Domestic Violence

Officers made four arrests in domestic violence incidents with one case involving a vehicle pursuit.

According to police reports, officers were called to the 6900 block of Romanzo Way early Saturday afternoon after 43-year old Christopher Estrella allegedly was intoxicated and poured lighter fluid in his residence and tried to start a fire. The suspect fled the residence in his car and officers located the car and initiated an enforcement stop.

After being pulled over, Estrella reportedly refused to leave the vehicle and then fled with officers following in pursuit. After a short distance Estrella hit a parked car and attempted to flee the scene on foot when officers subdued him.
After being medically cleared, Estrella was arrested and transferred to the county jail.

In the other domestic violence incidents officers arrested three suspects including 23-year old Angela Balli, 24-year old Roderick Rigmaiden and a 15-year old male juvenile all of Elk Grove.

Police also report there were four muggings this weekend. Three of the cases were youth-on-youth crimes where theft of property was the apparent motive.

One case involved an unknown number of suspects who punched the 47-year old male victim in the face and attempted to pull his jacket off. One of the suspects was startled and fled to a waiting vehicle when a witness approached the area. No further description of the suspects was provided.
