The Elk Grove Planning Commission will consider an application for an indoor soccer facility at tonight’s regular meeting.

The application for the facility is from Soccer World Inc., who is seeking a conditional use permit for an 18,088 sq. ft facility to be located on Kent Street. The proposed uses for the facility include installation of one indoor soccer filed, snack bar, merchandise area, locker rooms and offices.

The city planning department has recommended a resolution exempting the project from California Environmental Quality Act and approving a conditional use permit.

The commission will meet in the city council chamber and convenes at 6:30 pm.

Hmmm...do you suppose this facility will meet the requirements set forth last September by the EG council's economic incentive plan?

Will indoor soccer bring 50 jobs paying 75% of the current AMI? Somehow I doubt it. Just a wild hunch.

Remember -- the council indicated we need to expand southward precisely because we need large, dedicated swaths of land for those 50,000 AMI jobs. Clearly, our existing footprint isn't suitable for such endeavors; thus, WalMart Supercenters at Madeira, indoor soccer stalls and the like are what we're going to get.
