The Elk Grove Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on April 3, 2010 from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. As part of its on-going effort to eliminate drunk driving, the checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street.
Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested. The police say the object is to send a clear message of no tolerance to those who operating a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and or drugs.
Police ask that public to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
Funding for the sobriety checkpoint is provided through a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant that was made available by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
