The Wilton Action Group (WAG) and the The Elk Grove Coalition Advocating Proper Planning (EGCAPP), along with the Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club, will hold a press conference and rally on Wednesday, April 14, 2010. The rally and press conference will be held in the parking lot of Elk Grove City Hall Chambers at 8400 Laguna Palms Drive beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The city of Elk Grove is finalizing its application to present to the Sacramento Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) for approval. The SOI application requests including the areas immediately south and southeast of the city of Elk Grove which currently includes the floodplain. The Elk Grove City Council will hold a discussion on the SOI application at its April 14 meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. with SOI application its first regular agenda item.
“More than 300 people are expected to attend the rally to show support for Elk Grove City Council member Gary Davis’ position for the removal of the Cosumnes River floodplain from the city of Elk Grove’s proposed Sphere of Influence," said Linda Ford, EGCAPP Chairperson.
“The SOI application has been very contentious with environmental groups and many others against the SOI in its entirety," EGCAPP board member Connie Conley said. "However, we are not fighting city hall here. We are asking for a fair compromise by removing the floodplain which is at the center of the controversy.”
EGCAPP and WAG encourage all Elk Grove, South County and Wilton residents who support the removal of the floodplain to attend this important rally and council meeting. The rally begins at 5:00 p.m. with the press conference at 5:30 p.m.
The city council will hold a discussion on the SOI application at its April 14 meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. with SOI application its first regular agenda item.
