Regular readers of Elk Grove News have undoubtedly noticed the recent poll conduct regarding the reelection bids of incumbent Elk Grove City Council members Gary Davis and Pat Hume. Readers where asked “If the election were held today, would you vote for in the District 2/4 race.

For both district 2 and 4 readers could vote for either Gary Davis or Pat Hume respectively, an unnamed opponent or cast an undecided vote. The poll, which closed late yesterday afternoon, had almost polar opposite results for both candidates.

For Davis the results were favorable to his cause. Among the 45 respondents, 28 or 62% would vote for his reelection and 17 or 28% would vote for an unnamed opponent. There were no undecided votes cast.

The results for Hume were almost the direct opposite with 11 or 20% of the 55 respondents saying they would vote for his reelection but 40 or a whopping 72% saying they would vote for an unnamed opponent. Additionally 4 votes or 7% said they were undecided.

Obviously this is a small sampling in an un-validated poll, but the sheer number of people voting to oust Hume is revealing.

Does a poll taken on EGN 'Foretell Problems for Hume?'

Nope. I don't believe it does. Who's opposing Hume?
Are you hoping Soares will come out of hiding and get revenge for what happened in 2006?

I think the poll indicates some dissatisfaction for the incumbent in a race in which no other candidate has yet emerged. Clearly, un-scientific, yet but insightful that the once "shoe-in" Hume may be stumbling. It is difficult to judge the level of success or failure he will achieve until/unless an opponent is announced. It is my hope that a strong opponent will emerge and create an atmosphere of professionalism, poise and grace for District 2. To date, I do not believe those qualities have been achieved in our district.

Vote Hume Out ASAP.

Hume's sole purpose on the council is the SOI. That is why he was adamant he be on the Connector JPA.

But as he found out with the floodplain removed, this is Elk Grove, not Humeville!

Pat Hume's arrogance and temper finally caught up with him. Long ago, stalwart citizens tried to defend Jim Miller's position and two other lay-offs, only to be abruptly cut off at the knees by an irritated Pat Hume declaring, "This is a done deal!" and "No way I'm going to stay here all night!" He then was rude towards all Miller supporters, including a group of teenagers, several speakers and me, all of whom patiently waited to speak on that last agenda item. Is this truly the kind of person you want on your council?

Like the Lee's, I sure hope a candidate emerges to insure Elk Grove will be rid of him permanently.

We don't need a Grand Jury investigation to understand Hume has embarrassed both himself and the city by the Conley incident. His behavior as a private citizen was aberrant, but as a public figure it was inexcusable.

Where is the integrity we were all promised, yet to be seen on this council that continually finds new ways to embarrass our city?

Throw the bum out, I say. This is not the first time we've seen the angry side of Pat Hume, and if he's re-elected, I predict it won't be the last.
