According to information released moments ago by the Elk Grove City Clerk's office, David Cano did not meet the qualifications to have his name placed on the November general election ballot.
Cano has sought to enter the race with two others to challenge first term incumbent Pat Hume for the city council's District Two seat. It is not immediately known why Cano did not qualify.
According the information from the city clerk's office, although Cano had 30 signatures on his petition, 12 of the signatures were disqualified for a variety of reasons. Only 18 of the required 20 signatures were validated by the Sacramento County Office of Elections.

Two years ago Cano announced before a city council meeting that he would be running against then-incumbent Mike Leary. At the time of that announcement Cano proclaimed that he would be running as an openly Gay man and said his addition to the council would bring the number of council members in the closet to two. At that time he provided no further specifics.
In 2008 Cano did not qualify for the ballot as he was not registered in District Three.
