Fund raising woes continues for Hume

In one of the more interesting developments in the neck-to-neck race for Elk Grove’s District 2 city council seat, one of incumbent Pat Hume’s long-time fellow Rotarian’s and political patrons and his family have dumped him and thrown their full support to challenger George Murphey.

Bob Lent, owner of Elk Grove Milling and prominent member of the Elk Grove Rotary Club has recently made significant contributions to Murphey’s campaign. When he first ran in 2006 against then-incumbent Rick Soares, Lent’s well-known ranch on the city’s south side staged bountiful fund raisers for Hume.

In campaign finance disclosure filings submitted this week, Lent’s Elk Grove Milling contributed $2,500 and his daughter Kyler Lent also separately contributed $2,500.

According to court documents Hume is in a relationship with Lisa Lent, the former wife of Bob Lent. The Lent’s were divorced subsequent to Hume 2006 election to the city council. (See picture of Hume and Lent's here.)

Hume easily rode to victory in 2006 fueled in large part by a $200,000-plus campaign war chest. Hume's fund raising efforts this year have been hampered by the implosion of real estate developers, many of whom are now bankrupt.
