Do you think certain neighborhoods should be joined in a particular district? Want your place of business to belong in a particular district?

Here is your chance to advocate and have your voice heard.

Four public workshops about City of Elk Grove City Council redistricting have been announced. The first meeting will take place on Friday, May 6 at City Hall at 5 p.m.

The workshops will provide the opportunity for community members to draw maps of their own to submit to the City Council for consideration.

“These workshops serve a vital function,” said Mayor Steven Detrick. “They allow the residents of Elk Grove to shape and affect the process of drawing city council districts for the next decade. I urge residents of Elk Grove to come out and share their opinions with the city.”

Redistricting is mandated by law to occur once every ten years. With the passage of Measure K on the November 2010 ballot, Elk Grove will move from five council districts with a rotating mayor position to four council districts and a popularly elected mayor.

The City Council believes that public input is necessary for successful redistricting in Elk Grove and is striving to provide multiple opportunities for community involvement.

There will be a total of four opportunities to address the city on redistricting concerns. All meetings will take place in the Council Chambers at 8400 Laguna Palms Way, Elk Grove, CA. Redistricting workshops are open to all, and the public is encouraged to attend and participate.
