On Friday night a charity bowling event helped raise several thousands of dollars for the Elk Grove Food Bank.

The event, which was co-organized by the Elk Grove Community Connection and Ardie Zehedani of the RCH Group was hosted by Elk Grove Mayor Steve Detrick, Vice Mayor Jim Cooper and Council Member Gary Davis. The event was held at the Strikes Bowling Center on Laguna Blvd. and drew several dozens of participants.

Detrick, Cooper and Davis mingled with the participants at the event with Cooper selling raffle tickets and Davis and Detrick managing to get in a few frames.

"This is a win-win event," Davis said. "We are supporting a local business and supporting a great cause."

Davis noted that organizers hoped to raise at least $10,000 for the Elk Grove Food Bank and was confident that goal would be easily met. "I think it will be higher," he added.

Among the numerous food bank staff on-hand at the event was the group's Executive Director Marie Jachino who lauded the efforts of the Elk Grove Community Connection, Zehedani and the council members. Jachino cited the same core groups efforts earlier this year that held a widely successful Monte Carlo night for the benefit of the food bank.

"This event's success is way beyond my expectation," Jachino said. "It is great - this group did such a great job. They have been working non-stop."

Jacnino added that the food bank is facing ever increasing demand and does not foresee any abatement in the near future. She also noted that increasingly the food bank is seeing demand from senior citizens.

"The need is great," she said. "And i don't anticipate seeing that need changing."
